Disturbing Things
I came home yesterday and saw a note attached to my apartment door. This is not unusual however the contents of the note were. My complex said their was an "incident" that occured the other day and an visitor was stabbed in someone's apartment. To learn this was shocking. The city I live in does have a high crime rate in certain sections. However I live on the good side of town. My complex is not surrounded by projects, bars and liquor stores. Also most everyone here is late twenties to sixties and many people have children. The letter did not say what building this happened in or anything else about the crime. It took me awhile to find the news report on the internet. Apparently a guy around 25, who also had warrants out for his arrest was stabbed (not fatally, he did not die) in the building next to mine around noon time on Thursday. The man was wanted for drug charges. Witnesses saw 2 men fleeting from the scene but a suspect has not been arrested. The only comforting thing about this horrible situation is that the crime seems to be a drug deal gone bad. It was obviously not some sexual predator stalking women or a random attack of someone who lived here. The whole thing still bothers me. I don't want to live somewhere where I don't feel safe. Especially since I am a single woman. Also this area has had a lot of strange things happen over the years. There is a state forest about 5 miles away that has been the site of multiple murders and animal mutilations. Also during the 80s another city about 10 miles from me there was a serial killer who killed about 11 prostitues and dumped them on the many highways that surround the area. The case is still unsolved.
p.s Forgot to mention one more horrible thing that happend in that town. If you've ever seen the movie "The Accused" with Jodie Foster, you know how upsetting the story is. She is gang raped on a pinball machine in a bar. Well, that is a true story, it happened in a bar that is about a 30 minute drive away from here.
